The Jurassic Coast: The past, preserved in rock. The future, shaped by the sea.
Over the last year, I had the opportunity to create a short documentary exploring the Jurassic Coast, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that stretches along the Dorset and Devon coastline. The film focuses on the area’s unique geology, the stories preserved within its rocks, and the growing impact of climate change on this natural landmark.
Throughout the project, I handled every stage of production — from research and planning to filming and editing. I worked with local contributors and used both ground and drone footage to capture the dramatic landscapes that define the coastline. My goal was to balance cinematic visuals with educational storytelling, creating a piece that informs as much as it inspires.
This documentary also formed part of my work at Southampton Solent University, showcasing my passion for combining creative filmmaking with environmental awareness.
SmirkAdventures shares travel footage across Europe and the UK through short, direct videos. The account focuses on clean visuals, steady movement, and clear location shots from ground level and drone flights. Each trip includes planned routes, tight schedules, and focused filming sessions. Edits highlight motion, colour, and structure without clutter. Viewers see cities, coastlines, and key landmarks through simple, honest footage. Regular posts track progress across new regions and show growth in filming technique. This channel gives a straight look at travel through clear images and practical planning.
Hello, my name is Jack Smirk, I'm a graduate of TV and Film at Solent University Southampton. During my studies I had multiple opportunities to make short films, both with a script and without. I have been able to gain a wider knowledge of how this industry works and learned new ways to shoot and edit projects.
